Pereira, F. M., Mesquita, I. R., & Graça, A. B. (2010). Relating content and nature of information when teaching volleyball in youth volleyball training settings. Kinesiology, 42(2), 121-131.

Pereira et al. (2010) found that coaches, when interviewed, claimed that they focused on teaching individual skills to make them biomechanically efficient and then reinforced them with modified games.  However, when a behavioral profile was done on the same coaches they focused predominantly on technical instruction.  Professional development in youth coaching techniques was suggested.

Zhang, X., Yan, M., & Yangang, L. (2009) Differential performance of Chinese volleyball athletes and nonathletes on a multiple-object tracking task. Perceptual and Motor Skills, 109, 747-756.

Performance on multiple-object tracking task was examined between university students who attended a volleyball training class and professional volleyball athletes.  Object color and number of objects were manipulated throughout the study.  The researchers found that when the number of objects increased all participant's performance decreased.  The volleyball athletes had faster reaction time than nonathletes and males had faster reaction time than females.
