TASK

CONSTRAINTS

Task constraints are the characteristics of the task that set the level of difficulty for that task.  For example hurdles or triple jump may be more difficult for a kindergarten student than they would be for a high school student.  Task constraints should be modified for students of younger ages and for students with disabilities and students with little experience with an activity.

*ONE WAY TO DEVELOPMENTALLY MODIFY:

MODIFY THE EQUIPMENT

At a young age students need to use equipment that is lighter, travels slower and has brighter colors.  Some teachers may choose to use large beachballs, but this is not recommended since many beachballs are too large for young arms and hands to perform the skills appropriately.  Balloons and small beachballs are lighter and travel slower for young students to learn how to make their first contacts successful. Ultra-light volleyballs followed by volleylight volleyballs would be progressively closer to adult volleyball equipment.
